The most popular way of heating is the high-efficiency radiators. The greatest advantages of the devices are the simplicity and opportunity to guarantee comfortable conditions in the building. Operational issues of the efficiency radiators

  • the material of the device (the cast iron radiators are more widespread as they are able to heat up and cool down slowly creating comfortable conditions in the large room, while aluminum devices heat up and cool down much faster, which makes them appropriate for small areas)
  • the type of finish (it does not usually have a big difference but the chrome finish is able to rather keep the heat than produce it).

Type of the devices

There exist two main varieties of the devices:

  • steam equipment
  • water equipment.

The first type is considered the oldest. At the same time, it’s reliable and widespread. The device is linked to a boiler, which should warm up the liquid. When it achieves the certain temperature, the liquid becomes a stream, which goes through the pipes. Then the warm is given off to the surrounding area via the fins. When the warm is lost, the water comes back to the boiler. Then the process is repeated. To warm up the whole house, the process keeps repeating.

The second type is almost the same as the first one. The key differences are the more active moving of heat and the absence of the pressure. There are two mechanisms:

  • inlet (lets the heated liquid in)
  • outlet (lets the heated liquid out).

The liquid itself is warmed up by the special heater. The temperature isn’t boiling but high. When it achieves the necessary level, it gets pumped and goes through the radiators. Gradually, it loses the particular amount of heat. When it gets cold, it returns to the heater. The cycle can repeat any number of times required for heating the whole house. Besides, such system should be connected with the thermostat, which helps it know the temperature and stop operating when necessary.

How to use a device?

To use the devices, it’s necessary to control the speed of the heated liquid going through each radiator. The balance will allow achieving the comfortable conditions in the house.

You can use high-efficiency radiators for heat pumps. It’s a good alternative for the underfloor heating with air source heat pump. To apply the combination, it is required selecting the oversized equipment in order to make it compatible with the heat pump with the normal flow temperature (45-50 °C). The low it is, the more effective the heat pump will be. Besides, it will be more economical in this case. If you buy a radiator of the appropriate size, its type does not matter. The existing radiators can be applied but they might appear to be small. Thus, make the calculations and set up additional units if necessary before installing a heat pump. The majority of the houses already have oversized radiators, so there won’t be any need to add anything.

To provide better operation, it is advisable to prefer the cast iron radiators to the modern steel ones, as they are more effective and good-looking.

Such combination for heating is the best variant for the old properties, where it is not practical to set up the underfloor heating.
