Heat Pumps —
Environmentally
Friendly
Using a heat pump has a significant, positive influence on the environment. It may reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50%, versus traditional forms of heating. As carbon dioxide emissions are a major contributory factor to climate change, reducing emissions is a key step to maintaining a healthy and stable climate.
New buildings that have air to water heat pumps installed are rated as “A” on energy efficiency: the highest level in the sphere of heating your environment and hot water.
Husky Heat Pumps have a peak efficiency of more than 4:1 which means that every unit of energy that is consumed is converted into four units of energy for heating.

Husky heat pumps have a peak efficiency of more than 4:1 which means that every unit of energy consumed is converted to four units of energy for heating. It means that air source heat pumps cost of running is 3-4 times lower than conventional heaters.
Government
Backing
The installation of air source heat pumps is supported by the Government. The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government program that encourages people to switch to renewable heating systems in order to reduce the carbon dioxide output of the country. If you install an air source heat pump and follow the rules of use (see https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/environmental-programmes/domestic-rhi/participants/ongoing-obligations), you will receive annual payments for the first seven years following installation making air source heat pumps cost significantly lowered thanks to it.
DO HUSKY HEAT PUMPS WORK ALL YEAR ROUND?
Yes! The heat pumps can, and will work, all year round. In summer, if you don’t want the heating on, you simply turn the heating off as you would do with any other conventional heating system. Do not worry, your heat pump will still provide you with hot water, even when the central heating function is switched off.
WILL THE SYSTEM STILL PERFORM WHEN IT IS VERY COLD OUTSIDE?
Yes! The system is designed to work at temperatures as low as -20C. The UK statistics on temperature show that on average it will not go below -2.2C for 99% of the year, and the other 1% equates to 87 hours of the year (most of this at night). You will probably not heat your home at night currently, but our Heat Pump will heat your home at night so the 1% is taken care of.
WILL I HAVE ENOUGH HOT WATER?
Husky Heat Pumps can achieve hot water up to 60°C and heat 150 litres in only 20 minutes. The reason behind this is because our pumps are combined with our unique heat transfer hot water tank. Hot water is stored and available to meet your daily usage requirements.
DO I NEED A BACKUP HEATING SYSTEM?
No! We design all our systems to comfortably meet the heat demand of your property 365 days a year, with absolutely no need for a backup system. The option is available if you would prefer, but it is not necessary.
DO AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS REQUIRE SINGLE PHASE OR THREE PHASE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY?
Air Source Heat Pumps can be powered by both types of supply, within the Voltage parameters of the building. We will always consult your local supplier on your behalf before installation.
DO I HAVE TO CHANGE ANY OF MY RADIATORS?
Where possible, we will use your existing radiators, ensuring minimal disruption to you. In some cases, radiators or heat emitters may need to be upgraded, which we will take care of. We will assess the output of your radiators during our technical survey, following which we’ll be able to advise you if any changes are required.
Will I need to install larger radiators in my home?
Possibly. If your current heating system is a condensing boiler, if installed correctly, they only condense when producing hot water below 60°C. A heat pump will provide virtually the same heat as this. However, it is important to note that the lower temperatures the heat pump produces, the more efficient the system. Therefore having oversized radiators is of benefit. We will measure the heat output of your radiators for each room and advise you accordingly.
IS A BUFFER TANK NEEDED?
The answer is yes! It is possible to install without a buffer tank (although efficiency and life expectancy of unit will lower), however it is important to consider the following: Heat pumps require specific flow rates of water through their heat exchanger. If water flow is restricted, so too is efficiency. By installing in conjunction with a buffer tank, this will eliminate any restrictions of water flow experienced when installing directly into radiators.
Heat pumps require specific flow rates of water through their heat exchanger. If water flow is restricted, so too is efficiency. This is a fact! By installing in conjunction with a buffer tank, this will eliminate any restrictions of water flow experienced when installing directly into radiators. Its not so complicated, its common logic.
WHAT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION?
We find this a difficult question to answer. You see, as long as the heat pump produces enough output for demand and the radiators do likewise then we can heat any property effectively and efficiently. We regularly install Husky heat pumps in properties which are stone built and poorly insulated (references for customers are available).
ARE HEAT PUMPS NOISY?
No. Husky Heat Pumps are one of the quietest on the market, producing only 46 db (at a distance of 1m) for our 8KW model. To put this into context, a normal conversation, at a distance of 1m, generates around 60-65 db (source: www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html)
